1. Mechanical corrections come first

Nothing electrical begins until the gate rolls or swings freely by hand through its full travel, the posts are plumb, the track is clean and true, the stops are positive, and the rollers and pinch points are guarded. 2. Trench, power and grounding

3. Set the operator and prove the mechanics

5. Detection loops

Saw cut, lay, seal and cure the loops before traffic runs over them, and twist the feeder runs back to the detector. Give each loop an assigned job, whether exit, reversing or presence, and label it in the enclosure. Loop faults are a common reason a working gate starts behaving strangely two years later, and an unlabeled loop costs an hour of guessing on every future service call.

6. Entry method and programming

Telephone entry, credential readers, directory data and the account management software come after the machine is safe and reliable. Load the resident or employee data, set schedules, and configure the cellular or network service. Confirm signal strength at the pedestal rather than at the office, because they are rarely the same.

7. Commissioning that actually proves something

  • Trip every monitored entrapment device, in each direction of travel
  • Test a valid entry, a denied entry, and an exit under normal conditions
  • Pull power and confirm the documented behavior, including battery runtime
  • Drop the communications path and confirm what happens to entry
  • Demonstrate fire department and emergency access as the local authority requires
  • Drive representative vehicles across the loops, including a delivery truck and a compact car

8. Handover

The owner should leave with a device list, the loop and safety-device map, programming records and administrator credentials, the written sequence of operation, and a scheduled maintenance interval covering gate mechanics as well as electronics. A gate that is never exercised or inspected becomes a safety problem, not just a service problem.
