Throughput is the Georgia constraint
Around Hartsfield-Jackson and the airport-adjacent logistics belt, and along the I-16 and I-95 corridors feeding the Port of Savannah, the limiting factor at a vehicle entrance is usually queue time rather than perimeter strength. Trucks stacking back into a public road at shift change is an operational problem and a safety problem at once. A barrier arm cycles in a fraction of the time a heavy slide gate needs, so many Georgia distribution sites are best served by a layered design: barriers handling routine credentialed traffic during operating hours, with a slide or swing gate securing the property afterward.
Film and television production facilities around metro Atlanta present the opposite profile. Vehicle counts are low, control requirements are high, visitor and vendor traffic is constant, and access rules change between productions. There the operator matters less than the credential and visitor workflow attached to it.
Summer storms and power continuity
Georgia’s thunderstorm season produces short, frequent utility interruptions. Two questions must be settled before an operator is selected: what the gate does the moment power is lost, and what it does when power returns. Fail-open, fail-secure and manual release behavior are site decisions driven by life safety, fire department access and the security posture of the property. They are not defaults to be inherited from whatever was installed previously. Grounding and surge protection deserve the same scrutiny, particularly on long runs across open ground.
Access control commands a gate that is already safe
Under UL 325 and ASTM F2200, the installing team is responsible for entrapment protection, monitored safety devices in each direction of travel, warning signage, guarded openings and emergency access. Credentials and access control decide when a safe gate moves; they cannot compensate for a gate that binds, sags or lacks protection.
