Kaba Lock Service and Replacement in Georgia
The brand name changed; the hardware on your doors did not. Kaba is part of dormakaba following the Dorma merger, and the lock families people still call Kaba — Simplex, E-Plex, Ilco and Kaba Mas — continue under that name. KSEDCO works on all of it in Georgia: service on what is installed, replacement when a lock is past saving, and a route onto networked access control when standalone hardware stops being practical.
First, identify what is actually on the door
Buildings that have changed owners two or three times almost always carry a mix. A quick walk tells you most of it:
- A row of round pushbuttons with no battery compartment is a mechanical pushbutton lock — one combination, changed by hand, no audit trail and no power.
- A keypad with a battery pack behind the interior escutcheon is an electronic standalone lock — many user codes, an audit trail you have to collect at the door, batteries on a schedule.
- Cylinders and keyways carrying an Ilco mark point to a key system that can usually be rekeyed rather than ripped out.
- A dial-and-display combination lock on a container or vault door is Kaba Mas hardware, with its own service and change procedures.
Where standalone locks earn their place in Georgia
Warehouse and distribution sites off I-16 and I-75, and the yards feeding the Port of Savannah, are full of doors that will never justify a cable run: gatehouses, fuel and chemical sheds, maintenance rooms, trailer offices. Standalone Kaba hardware is the sensible answer at those openings. The same holds for production offices and stage support space around metro Atlanta, where a tenant may hold a building for a single season and cannot install infrastructure it will leave behind. Summer storms and battery locks
Georgia’s storm season is hard on anything that depends on utility power, and that is the honest advantage of standalone locking: a mechanical or battery lock keeps working when the building does not. The trade-off is maintenance. Batteries in exterior electronic locks drain faster in Georgia heat and humidity, and a lock nobody has touched in three years will fail on the worst possible morning. We put battery replacement and code rotation on a schedule instead of waiting for the lockout call.
Moving from codes to credentials
Standalone locks come apart at scale. Every code change is a site visit, shared codes spread quietly, and no one can answer who opened a door last Tuesday.
