Keri Systems has been building access control since 1990, long enough that plenty of Georgia buildings run Keri hardware installed by companies that no longer exist. What separates a one-hour service call from a full day of archaeology is almost never the hardware. It is whether anyone kept the handover package.
Here is what a Keri owner should have in hand, and what KSEDCO turns over on every job.
The door schedule
Every opening listed by number, with its reader model, lock type, fail-safe or fail-secure behavior, request-to-exit device, door position switch and any interlock or delayed egress. Names in the software should match the sign on the door and the number on the drawing. When they do not, every future permission change becomes a guessing exercise.
Panel and bus records
Controller model and location for each enclosure, IP addressing, RS-485 bus layout with device addresses, and firmware level per board. Note which enclosures have spare capacity, because that is the first question on any expansion and the answer is rarely obvious from outside a locked can.
Credential facts
Format, facility code, bit length, part numbers and the range of card numbers issued. Without those four items, ordering additional credentials for an existing site turns into trial and error at the customer’s expense.
Software, licenses and a restore you have actually tested
Record which platform the site runs: Doors.NET on premises, or Borealis in the cloud. For Doors.NET, document the server, the SQL instance and the backup job — and then perform one restore. A backup nobody has ever restored is a hope, not a record. Owner-level accounts and licenses should be registered to the organization rather than to whoever installed the system.
Power and batteries
Supply ratings, battery installation dates and a scheduled replacement date. Standby batteries fail quietly and are usually discovered during the outage they were bought for.
The installed base and the migration question
Doors32 belongs to an earlier era of Windows and is not a platform to keep building on. Many sites still run Keri PXL controllers and Entraguard telephone entry alongside newer equipment, and Borealis supports a mixed field: the NXT family including NXT-MSC Mercury-powered controllers, Keri PXL and Entraguard units, and Mercury EP, LP and MP controllers.
That breadth means migration is genuinely two questions rather than one. Change the software, change the hardware, or stage them across budget years? The honest answer depends entirely on what is documented. Why the paperwork matters more along the corridors
Distribution and manufacturing sites on I-75 through Macon, on I-16 and I-95 behind the Savannah port, and on I-185 at Columbus tend to keep systems in service for a long time and to expand them one door at a time as the building changes. Ten years of undocumented door-at-a-time growth is exactly what turns a small repair into a survey. Multi-building campuses around Athens have the same problem spread across more buildings and more people with opinions about who should have access to what.
