Schlage ENGAGE Wireless Locks

Schlage ENGAGE-enabled locks can reduce field wiring at selected openings, but successful deployment still depends on door preparation, credential strategy, wireless coverage, integrations and battery-service engineering assessment.

KSEDCO supplies, installs, configures, maintains, repairs, and supports these systems across Georgia. Discuss a site or service request

Use wireless locks where operations and preventive maintenance support them

Weigh the opening and its traffic against online-response needs, credential security, the wireless environment, battery access and management-software support.

NDE SeriesWireless cylindrical locks for supported commercial openings and access-management integrations.
LE SeriesWireless mortise locks for openings needing compatible mortise hardware and functions.
ENGAGE GatewayProvides real-time communication for supported lock and software configurations.
No-TourSupported credential workflows can carry updates without requiring every lock to communicate in real time.

Choosing NDE or LE per opening

The survey decides the order: door material and thickness, edge and face preparation, handing, latch, strike, frame condition, fire label and the hardware already there. NDE cylindrical and LE mortise families answer different door preparations and hardware functions, so each opening ends with a confirmed chassis, lever, cylinder, finish and function.

Openings where cable is hard to pull, or where moderate traffic and distributed management make battery operation sensible, are where these locks fit. High-cycle doors, critical doors and special-egress doors may be better served by another architecture. Accessibility, life safety and code questions belong with the appropriate professionals.

  • Door prep: cylindrical or mortise
  • Handing plus function, trim and finish
  • Busy or critical doors and response timing
  • Who coordinates fire, egress and accessibility

How credentials and management work

No credential works across every integration by default, so smart or mobile credentials are chosen together with the access-control platform. Around that sit enrollment devices, key management, mobile provisioning, lost-credential handling and the move off legacy proximity.

Timing separates the two modes: real-time gateway communication, or a No-Tour workflow, each with its own update and event behavior. Settle how fast an access change must reach the lock, how events are gathered and what happens while communication is down, then confirm the capability with the access software provider.

  • Enrolling users and provisioning phones
  • Whether locks run gateway or No-Tour
  • Events and commands the integration supports

Getting wireless, gateways and network ready

Perform an ENGAGE wireless survey for gateway-managed openings and place gateways according to current Allegion guidance. Building materials, metal doors, equipment rooms and tenant construction can affect communication. Record gateway-to-lock relationships and validate signal after field installation.

General Wi-Fi coverage proves nothing about whether a lock or gateway is communicating; that comes from supported test tools, with the accepted result documented. Gateway power, network, outbound connectivity, addressing, DNS, time and security are all worked out with the client’s IT team.

  • Where gateways sit, based on a supported survey
  • Construction materials and interference
  • Power and network at each gateway
  • Post-field installation communication validation

Battery service, functional commissioning and records

Traffic, communication mode, environment and configuration all move battery life, so plan the service rather than the number. Name who receives low-battery alerts, who keeps approved replacement batteries on hand and how a swap happens without leaving an opening unsecured. Binding hardware adds mechanical demand, so check door alignment.

Commissioning walks through valid and invalid credentials, expired ones, schedules, lockdown where it is supported, offline behavior and the low-battery state. Each lock’s record holds model, serial, firmware, opening, credential format, gateway association and software integration. ENGAGE applications and firmware come only from official Allegion or supported partner channels.

  • Which battery, who stocks it, who swaps it
  • How the door aligns and operates
  • Scenarios for credentials, offline state and alerts
  • Asset record covering locks, gateways, firmware

How a project runs, start to finish

The final system engineering depends on site conditions, existing systems, client policies and the selected manufacturer or platform.

Survey openings

Each opening is documented: prep, condition, function, traffic, compliance.

Select ecosystem

Confirmation covers gateways, software support, credentials, the locks and the management mode.

Commission securely

Installation, enrollment and testing cover wireless, credentials, alerts and offline behavior.

Transfer lifecycle

What gets delivered: service procedures, support sources, batteries and asset records.

Information to gather before system engineering

Good decisions are easier when the security engagement team starts with complete operational and technical information. The following items help reduce assumptions, change orders and avoidable return visits.

  • Door preparation and the function needed
  • Strategy for cards and phones
  • Management platform and supported integrations
  • Survey results, gateway power and network
  • Battery, firmware and preventive maintenance ownership

Common questions

These are common engineering assessment questions. A site-specific answer needs to be confirmed during discovery and system engineering.

How do NDE and LE differ?

Both are wireless lock families: NDE cylindrical, LE mortise. The functions and options available inside each family are not identical.

Is a gateway needed for every ENGAGE lock?

No. No-Tour and other supported modes exist, though real-time functions call for the supported communication architecture.

Do our current proximity cards still work?

Possibly, but credential security and exact reader support needs to be evaluated rather than making reuse the default goal.

Can battery life be predicted?

Not to a fixed number. Usage, communication, environment and settings shift it, so plan alerting and preventive replacement.

The manufacturer’s official website is where its software, firmware and technical files stay. KSEDCO does not keep firmware copies on this site.
