Aiphone IP intercom guide

Aiphone IX and IXG IP Intercom System Engineering

Aiphone IX and IXG systems support commercial and multi-tenant communication, but call routing, network services, door release and operator responsibility must be engineered for the property.

KSEDCO supplies, installs, configures, maintains, repairs, and supports these systems across Georgia. Discuss a site or service request

Map every caller to a reliable answering path

Define entrances, users, answering stations, mobile or cloud use, call escalation, video verification, release permissions and failure behavior.

IX SeriesAn IP peer-to-peer video intercom family for commercial, education, healthcare and security applications.
IXG SeriesAn IP video intercom platform suited to multi-tenant and larger residential entry workflows.
JO SeriesA smaller home and office video intercom option with supported mobile-app capabilities.

Series and station architecture

Select IX, IXG, JO or another family from entrance count, tenant or department count, answering locations, mobile needs, paging, emergency use and integrations. Record every door, master station, guard position, app user and call destination. Expansion limits and licenses needs to be checked for the current system release.

Choose surface, flush, vandal-resistant, weather-resistant and accessibility options for the opening. Camera height, lighting, background noise, reach range and signage affect usability. Emergency stations need visibility, intelligibility and a monitored response process, not only a call button.

  • Entrance and answering-station schedule
  • IX, IXG or other family fit
  • Mounting, camera and audio environment
  • Capacity, license and expansion

Network, PoE and SIP dependencies

Coordinate switch ports, PoE class, VLANs, addressing, DHCP or static reservations, DNS, NTP, multicast and required cloud or SIP connectivity. Voice and video quality depend on local network health and uplink capacity. Document firewall rules with the client rather than broadly opening ports.

If integrating with a PBX, SIP server, VMS or access platform, verify exact supported functions and licenses. Decide which system owns directory names, schedules and call forwarding. Time synchronization is essential when intercom video and door events are investigated together.

  • PoE and switch-port schedule
  • VLAN, IP, DNS and NTP
  • SIP, cloud and firewall requirements
  • Integration ownership and time alignment

Door release and operational workflow

Door release wiring must match lock voltage, current, relay rating, fail mode and emergency requirements. Use an interface or power supply where the station relay needs to not switch the lock load directly. Protect relay wiring from compromise at exterior stations.

Define who may release each door, whether visual verification is required, what happens after no answer and how calls are recorded or logged. Mobile answering needs account ownership, notification testing and a procedure for lost phones and departing staff.

  • Lock, relay and power coordination
  • Release permission and verification
  • No-answer and escalation workflow
  • Mobile-user lifecycle

Programming, acceptance and support

Build and back up the supported configuration, station directory, IP schedule and firmware baseline. Test calls, audio, video, directory search, forwarding, door release, offline states, power loss and recovery at each entrance. Measure intelligibility in normal ambient noise.

Use Aiphone’s official knowledge base for software, firmware, diagrams and manuals. Do not host firmware locally. Deliver operator instructions and protected configuration records separately from public marketing information.

  • Configuration backup and firmware baseline
  • Call, release and failure tests
  • Operator training and escalation
  • Official support and protected closeout

How we plan and deliver the work

The final system engineering depends on site conditions, existing systems, client policies and the selected manufacturer or platform.

Map calls

List entrances, users, destinations and release authority.

Engineer devices

Select stations, mounts, PoE, network and lock interfaces.

Program and integrate

Configure routing, directories, SIP and supported platforms.

Test and transfer

Validate calls, releases, failures and operator response.

Information to gather before system engineering

Good decisions are easier when the security engagement team starts with complete operational and technical information. The following items help reduce assumptions, change orders and avoidable return visits.

  • Entrance, tenant and station counts
  • Network, PoE and SIP environment
  • Door hardware and release circuits
  • Mobile, cloud and integration needs
  • Testing, training and support ownership

Frequently asked questions

These are common engineering assessment questions. A site-specific answer needs to be confirmed during discovery and system engineering.

Can IX stations call without a PBX?

Supported IX system engineerings can use peer-to-peer communication; PBX integration is optional for defined workflows.

Can the intercom release an electric lock directly?

Only when the electrical load and security system engineering fit the supported relay; an interface is often appropriate.

Is mobile answering available on every series?

Capabilities vary by product, app, cloud service and region. Verify the current system.

Where needs to Aiphone support software be obtained?

Use Aiphone’s official knowledge base and product support resources.

Manufacturer software, firmware and technical files remain on the manufacturer’s official website. We do not mirror firmware files locally.
